Rosemary Shepherd, 75 of California, MD died August 27, 2013 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness.

Rosemary was born in Hays, KS in 1938 and was the school valedictorian her graduating year of 1956 at Ellis High School. She studied English and education at the University of Kansas, earning her degree in 1960 after three and a half years. She went on to teach English to high school students. This work included teaching at Bonner Springs, KS as well as a stint teaching Navy dependent children at the Argentia Naval Base in Newfoundland, Canada.

She and her husband Terry met at the base in Newfoundland and were married in 1963 in Norfolk, VA. She had a period of travel during her husband’s service, which included stops in Monterey, CA and Annapolis, MD. In Annapolis she became the mother of a baby daughter, Jennifer.

Later Rosemary moved with her family to Quakertown, PA, where she lived for 26 years. There she became one of the highest performing sales representatives in her region for Avon, the cosmetics company. She retired in 1997 when she and her husband moved to Lusby, MD where her husband has been working at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

Rosemary was an avid reader and movie fan in addition to being a loving and devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Terry, her daughter, Jennifer from New Jersey and
her sister, Jackie from Kansas.

Family will receive friends for Rosemary’s Life Celebration on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private.

Rosemary was charitably-minded and donated over the years to organizations as diverse as local food banks to the Salvation Army to children’s charities. The family welcomes donations in her name to a charity of choice.
